Residents and motorists in Uyo face temporary movement restrictions as the Akwa Ibom State Police Command moves to secure six major routes and strategic locations ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state.
The police have also prohibited drone operations across Uyo metropolis and banned fireworks, knockouts and other explosive sound-producing devices throughout the presidential visit.
Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, announced the restrictions during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, explaining that the measures were designed to secure the presidential convoy and prevent possible security breaches.
The affected routes and locations are Airport Road, Shelter Afrique Junction, Oron Road, Nung Oku Junction, Mbierebe Junction and Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the affected corridors and use alternative routes, while residents and business operators are expected to comply with the ban on fireworks and other explosive devices.
Azare said the restriction on drone operations was intended to safeguard restricted airspace and protect critical locations against potential security threats.
He explained that the prohibition of fireworks and knockouts would prevent unnecessary panic and security distractions, allowing personnel to respond effectively to genuine threats.
The police commissioner appealed for public cooperation, acknowledging that the restrictions could disrupt normal movement but insisting that they were necessary in the interest of public safety.
He said the Command was collaborating with other security agencies to coordinate intelligence gathering, traffic control and security deployment across strategic locations in the state.
Residents were also advised to avoid restricted areas, obey lawful instructions from security personnel and report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
President Tinubu is scheduled to visit Akwa Ibom on Friday, November 6, 2026.
