Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has confirmed the successful completion of free surgeries for 65 children under a medical initiative launched as part of activities marking his 65th birthday.

Obi disclosed this on Thursday in a post on his X account, where he expressed appreciation to the medical team, hospital management, parents and others who contributed to the success of the programme.

According to him, he attended the “final follow-up clinic and appreciation” session at Mother Mary Hospital in Isolo, Lagos, where he interacted with some of the children and their families following the procedures.

The initiative, led by Dr Folaseye Adebayo, an ENT surgeon, provided free adenotonsillectomy procedures to the beneficiaries. The surgery involves the removal of the tonsils and adenoids and is commonly performed to treat recurrent infections and breathing difficulties caused by obstruction.

Obi said the successful recovery of the children was particularly gratifying, noting that hearing from parents about improvements in their children’s health and wellbeing made the experience meaningful.

He commended the medical professionals for volunteering their expertise and thanked the families for their trust and cooperation throughout the process.

The programme was conceived as part of activities marking Obi’s 65th birthday, which was celebrated on July 19, 2026, with the latest update highlighting the completion of the surgeries and the successful recovery of the beneficiaries.
