9/11 At 25: New York Pays Tribute To Victims Of Historic Attack

New York has commemorated 25 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, as families of victims, officials and members of the public gathered to honour those who died in the tragedy.

The remembrance ceremony was held on Friday at the September 11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan, where relatives returned to the site of the former World Trade Center to pay tribute to their loved ones.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed when hijackers took control of four passenger planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Channels Television reported that the milestone anniversary has also renewed focus on survivors and first responders whose lives were profoundly affected by the attacks and their aftermath.

Beyond remembering the victims, the anniversary has highlighted the far-reaching impact of the attacks, which significantly influenced US security measures, foreign policy and its global fight against terrorism.

Similar remembrance events are being held at the Pentagon and the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania as the United States honours those who lost their lives 25 years ago.
