After nearly three decades of waiting, the Dutse Emirate in Jigawa State is finally set to have a modern royal complex, with the state government laying the foundation for a N2.6 billion palace in the state capital.
The project, which is expected to be completed within 18 months, is being constructed along Ibrahim Aliyu Road by Newpro Quants Consultants Limited. The new complex will include a coronation hall, Jumu’ah mosque, conference facilities, residential quarters, the Chief Imam’s residence and other ceremonial and administrative facilities.
The development was described by Governor Umar Namadi as part of efforts to strengthen Dutse’s status as the state capital and improve the city’s image to visitors. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, the governor said the palace would serve as an important point of contact for national and international visitors.
For the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammad Hameem Nuhu Sanusi, the foundation laying marks the fulfilment of a dream that the emirate had pursued for about 30 years. He expressed appreciation to the governor, describing the project as significant to the royal institution and the people of Dutse.
The new development, however, will not mean the end of the historic Garu Palace. The Emir said the existing palace would be preserved because of its cultural and historical significance, noting that it remains a place where visitors can experience the history and traditions of the emirate.
Meanwhile, the contractor’s representative, Engr. Abubakar Kaila, assured the government that the project would be delivered within the 18-month schedule, saying construction had commenced following mobilisation. TVC News, which reported the development, said the new palace is expected to provide the Dutse Emirate with a modern traditional complex while preserving the historic Garu Palace as a link to its past.
