The wife of African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Aminat Titi Abubakar, has urged Nigerian youths to reject money offered by politicians in exchange for their votes during the 2027 elections.

Aminat made the appeal in Abuja while mobilising support for her husband, arguing that the temporary financial benefits offered during elections would do little to address the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians.

She urged young voters to focus on the long-term impact of their choices at the polls and support candidates with the experience required to govern effectively.

Aminat pointed to Atiku’s eight years as Vice President between 1999 and 2007, saying his previous experience in government gave him an advantage over candidates who would have to learn the demands of office after being elected.

She also defended Atiku’s decision to seek the presidency despite his age, saying his motivation was to contribute to the country and pass his political experience on to younger Nigerians.

“Because many people keep saying, ‘What is he looking for? Very soon he’s going to be 80.’ But Atiku wants to teach all you children how politics is being made,” she said.

Aminat further disclosed that Atiku had told her he would serve only one term if elected in 2027. However, she said she believed Nigerians could be impressed enough by his performance to ask him to seek another term.

She also criticised the state of governance and the economy, claiming that the country’s institutions had weakened and that Nigerians were struggling under prevailing economic conditions.

Aminat called on ADC supporters, particularly youths, to actively participate in the party’s mobilisation efforts and protect their votes during the election.

She warned that accepting money in exchange for votes could have consequences beyond the immediate benefit, urging young Nigerians to consider the kind of country they would leave for future generations.
