Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Betta Edu, has called for stronger grassroots awareness of government programmes aimed at expanding women’s participation in agriculture, enterprise, energy, skills development and social investment.
According to Northern Nigeria Hub, Edu made the call in her message to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, stressing the importance of ensuring that women and households understand available opportunities and the institutions responsible for delivering them.
She said the women’s mobilisation structure would step up community-level engagement, including door-to-door sensitisation, to take information about such programmes directly to women across the country.
Edu said President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms were creating what she described as new avenues for economic participation, adding that their benefits would be more meaningful if people at the grassroots knew how and where to access available opportunities.
“Our responsibility is to take that message to the grassroots and ensure that women know where opportunities exist, how to access them, and how to engage the relevant institutions,” she said.
Edu also linked the mobilisation effort to the 2027 political cycle, saying the grassroots structures would be used to campaign for Tinubu’s re-election for a second term. She urged Nigerians to promote unity and peaceful coexistence as the country marks its independence.
She also paid tribute to Nigeria’s founding fathers and heroines, saying their sacrifices laid the foundation for successive generations to contribute to the country’s development.
