Eunice Thomas Banks on NUJ Debate to Showcase Legislative Agenda for Eket Constituency

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Eket Federal Constituency, Dr. Eunice Thomas, has declared her readiness to defend her legislative ambition before voters, insisting that she has concrete proposals to address the challenges confronting the constituency.

Thomas said the December 11, 2026 debate organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, would provide an opportunity to present her agenda and demonstrate why she should be elected to represent Eket, Esit Eket and Ibeno in the House of Representatives.

She made the declaration when members of the NUJ Debate Planning Committee visited her to deliver the formal invitation and other materials ahead of the scheduled debate. She subsequently signed the debate participation form

The APC candidate said her knowledge of the constituency and its challenges, coupled with the programmes she had developed, would enable her to make a convincing case before the electorate.

“I am ready. I have enough in my agenda to tell the people and debate my opponents. I know my people, I know our problem, and I know how to address them. That makes me the best candidate for Eket Federal Constituency,” she said.

Thomas described the debate initiative as an important platform for strengthening electoral accountability, noting that it would enable voters to assess the capacity, ideas and preparedness of candidates before making their choices.

She commended the NUJ State Council, under the leadership of Comrade Nsibiet John, for introducing the initiative, describing the level of planning and public awareness generated so far as encouraging.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Debate Planning Committee said the exercise would be strictly issue-based, with measures in place to prevent personality attacks and unnecessary confrontation among participating candidates.

He urged Thomas to mobilise her supporters and party members to attend the programme.

The NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, said the Eket Federal Constituency debate was particularly significant to him as a constituent who would also participate in the election.

John stressed that his vote, like those of other constituents, would be determined by the candidate capable of convincing the electorate through ideas, competence and a clear understanding of the constituency’s needs.

Other members of the delegation included the committee’s Secretary, Comrade NseAbasi Valentine, and the State Auditor of the NUJ, Dianaime Uko.
