Three More Republicans Break With Trump As House Moves Against Iran War

President Donald Trump is facing a wider Republican divide in the US House over the continuing war with Iran, after three additional GOP lawmakers joined Democrats in backing a measure calling for an end to the conflict.

CNN reports that Tuesday’s vote produced seven Republican defections, compared with four GOP lawmakers who supported the previous House resolutions seeking to force the withdrawal of US troops from Iran.

The latest Republican breakaways were Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn of Iowa, both representing competitive districts, and Nancy Mace of South Carolina, who is not seeking another term in Congress.

They joined Representatives Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Tom Barrett of Michigan, Warren Davidson of Ohio and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, who had previously backed similar measures.

The vote marks the third occasion on which the House has acted to demand an end to the military engagement, although the latest action comes with the November midterm elections approaching and represents one of the chamber’s final major votes before the polls.

Nunn said his position was based on opposition to an open-ended conflict, arguing that the United States could protect its citizens and exert pressure on Iran while still pursuing diplomacy.

“I will not support another open-ended war,” Nunn said in a post on X, adding that Congress must exercise its constitutional responsibility over military action.

The growing number of Republican defections also comes as Trump has made clear that he regards congressional support for his Iran policy as an important test of loyalty, while House Republican leaders have formally allowed members to decide individually how to vote on such resolutions.

The vote does not by itself end the war, but it highlights the widening disagreement within Trump’s party over the continuation of US military operations in Iran as lawmakers head toward the midterm elections.
