President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has placed his 2027 re-election campaign in the hands of former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari, naming him Director-General of the Tinubu/Shettima campaign organisation.
Yari’s appointment has been welcomed by former National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, who described the senator as a seasoned political operator with the grassroots reach and experience required for a competitive presidential election.
Shinkafi said the 2027 contest would go beyond political calculations in Abuja, stressing that the ability to mobilise voters through party structures, grassroots networks and strategic alliances would be critical to victory.
He noted that Yari’s political experience spans the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), where he served as Zamfara State Secretary and Chairman before becoming National Treasurer. He later served in the House of Representatives and as governor of Zamfara State.
According to Shinkafi, Yari’s knowledge of party structures, traditional institutions, women and youth organisations gives him a broad political base that could be useful to the Tinubu/Shettima ticket.
He urged APC stakeholders to rally behind the campaign council and avoid internal disagreements, saying unity would be essential to the party’s efforts to retain the presidency in 2027.
