Residents of Ikot Osute in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State are set to gain improved access to basic healthcare with the provision of a Model Primary Health Centre by the administration of Governor Umo Eno.
The facility, listed as Project 13 among the 39 projects marking Akwa Ibom’s 39th anniversary, is expected to serve Ikot Osute and neighbouring communities with essential medical services.
The centre will provide maternal and child healthcare, antenatal care, immunisation and treatment of common illnesses, reducing the need for residents to travel long distances for basic medical attention.
Its establishment is expected to be particularly significant for pregnant women, children and other residents who require routine healthcare services at the community level.
The project forms part of the state government’s broader intervention in primary healthcare, with modern health facilities being provided in communities across Akwa Ibom.
The administration has continued to place emphasis on taking essential services closer to rural residents, where distance and limited access to functional health facilities can delay treatment and increase the burden on families.
For Ikot Osute and surrounding communities, the Model Primary Health Centre is therefore expected to strengthen access to preventive and basic medical care while providing a closer point of contact between residents and the state’s healthcare system.
The project is being implemented under Governor Eno’s ARISE Agenda, with its inclusion among the 39 projects highlighting the administration’s focus on community-level infrastructure as Akwa Ibom marks 39 years of statehood.
