Cross River State has lost its Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams Abang, with his sudden death on Saturday throwing the state’s political and public service community into mourning.

Williams died on September 12, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja, where he was receiving medical attention.

The death was disclosed on Sunday by his brother, Nkang Williams, who described the development as sudden and difficult for the family to accept.

Nkang said the loss was particularly painful because Williams had recently been with members of the family before his death, describing his transition as a devastating turn of events that had left the family struggling to come to terms with the reality.

He said his late brother was not only a sibling but also a companion whose presence had been deeply significant to the family, adding that his death had created a void that would be difficult to fill.

Expressing his grief, Nkang said, “I am struggling to believe that I am writing these words about you, my beloved brother, Dr. Eka Williams Abang. How can someone who was here with us suddenly become a memory?”

He added that the memories, conversations and moments shared with the deceased would remain with the family, despite his death.

Williams’ death comes as a loss to the Cross River State Government, where he served as Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy.
