Charles to Channel Memoir Proceeds Into Prostate Cancer Awareness @60

Sir Charles Udo, former Commissioner for Information and Communications and Environment, Culture and Tourism in Akwa Ibom State, is set to channel proceeds from his forthcoming autobiography into prostate cancer awareness and related interventions as he marks his 60th birthday.

Udo disclosed the plan ahead of the public presentation of his memoir, The Mystery Called Destiny: A Memoir of Grace, Faith and Life’s Turning Points, scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2026, in Uyo.

The decision gives the publication a humanitarian dimension, with Udo turning his personal experience of battling prostate cancer into an avenue to support awareness and interventions for others affected by the disease.

The memoir is expected to recount his journey from a village school through banking, brand management and entrepreneurship to public service, including his tenure as Commissioner for Information and Communications and Commissioner for Environment, Culture and Tourism.

Udo also served as Managing Director of Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort and currently serves as Delivery Advisor to Governor Umo Eno on Tourism, continuing his involvement in the development and promotion of tourism in the state.

Beyond his professional trajectory, the book examines the personal challenges that shaped his life, including near-death experiences and his battle with prostate cancer. Udo describes the account as a story of faith, survival, adversity and the turning points that ultimately defined his journey.

The 60th birthday presentation is therefore expected to combine a personal milestone with a public-interest cause, as the author seeks to use his life story to encourage greater attention to prostate cancer awareness and support for related interventions.

Through The Mystery Called Destiny, Udo hopes readers will draw courage from his struggles, hope from his survival and direction from the lessons of his experiences, while proceeds from the work help extend that message beyond the pages of the memoir into practical support for cancer awareness.
