The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, is expected in Plateau State on Wednesday for high-level security engagements as authorities intensify efforts to contain a fresh wave of deadly attacks that has claimed at least 20 lives in the past week.

Disu’s visit comes amid renewed concerns over the security situation in several Plateau communities, where gunmen have carried out separate attacks, leaving residents dead and communities under tension.

The Plateau State Police Command, which announced the visit on Tuesday, said the IGP would use the trip to assess security operations and strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said the visit was aimed at “strengthening security collaboration, assessing police formations, and engaging key stakeholders in the state.”

According to the command, Disu is scheduled to arrive at the Jos Airport at 9:30 am on Wednesday before proceeding to meet Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House at 10:30 am.

The IGP is also expected to engage with officials and participants at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, at noon.

His itinerary will further take him to the Police Staff College, Jos, where he is scheduled to conduct an inspection at 3:00 pm.

The police command said the engagements formed part of efforts to reinforce security coordination and enable the police leadership to obtain a first-hand assessment of the security challenges confronting the state.

The visit comes at a particularly sensitive time for Plateau, with the recent attacks renewing calls for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further loss of lives.
