Nsit Atai Youth Centre Set For Commissioning As Akwa Ibom Marks 39th Anniversary

The newly established Youth Development Centre in Odot, headquarters of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, will be commissioned on Wednesday as part of activities marking Akwa Ibom State’s 39th anniversary.

Governor Umo Eno is expected to commission the facility, which is among the youth development centres being established across the state under the administration’s youth empowerment and human capital development initiatives.

The centres are designed to provide young people with practical training in areas including information and communication technology, fashion and design, catering and other entrepreneurial skills.

The state government has said the facilities, when fully operational across the 31 local government areas, are expected to support the training of about 31,000 youths annually.

The Nsit Atai centre is expected to provide residents, particularly young people, with access to skills acquisition opportunities within the local government, reducing the need for prospective trainees to travel outside the area for similar programmes.

Beyond skills acquisition, the initiative is intended to strengthen opportunities for self-employment and small-scale enterprise development among young people.

The project also forms part of the youth-focused component of the administration’s ARISE Agenda, which places emphasis on human capital development and economic participation.

Ahead of the commissioning, the Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Prince Anthony Nyong, inspected the facility and reviewed preparations for the event.

Nyong said the local government was prepared for the commissioning and expressed support for the state government’s decision to locate the centre in Nsit Atai.

The commissioning is expected to provide an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to assess the facility and its potential role in expanding access to vocational and entrepreneurial training in the local government.

The event comes as the state commemorates 39 years since its creation, with youth development and other public projects featuring among activities marking the anniversary.
