Akwa Ibom At 39: Ibeno School Gets New Classrooms, Technology Facilities

A new three-classroom block with offices, water and separate toilet facilities has been commissioned at Iwuoachang Community Secondary School, Ibeno Local Government Area, as part of activities marking Akwa Ibom State’s 39th anniversary.

The facility, constructed and furnished through the intervention of the member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Udobia Friday Udo, is located at the proposed new site of the school.

The project was formally opened on Monday, September 14, coinciding with the commencement of the 2026/27 academic session, providing students and teachers with additional space and improved facilities for teaching and learning.

Beyond the classrooms, the facility includes a principal’s office, staff office, store, students’ and teachers’ toilets, furnished desks and a water facility. Plans also include a computer system and smart television connected to the principal’s office to support visual and technology-assisted learning.

Commissioning the project, Dr Eunice Thomas, the All Progressives Congress candidate for Eket Federal Constituency in the 2027 election, commended the intervention, saying improved school infrastructure remained important to raising the standard of education in communities.

Udobia said the project was deliberately sited on the proposed relocation ground to provide a foundation for further expansion of the school. He said his decision to invest in the institution was influenced by his responsibility to convert his legislative mandate into tangible benefits for constituents.

“When I was given the helm to represent Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency at the State House of Assembly, I decided to turn opportunity to advantage and to impact my people positively,” he said.

The lawmaker also linked the intervention to Governor Umo Eno’s rural development and education priorities under the ARISE Agenda, while urging other stakeholders and individuals to invest in the new school site and support further development. The school’s principal, Ikpaette Asukpa Ikpaette, described the project as a major milestone for the institution, while community groups including the Iwuoachang Concerned Forum and Iwuoachang Students Forum commended the intervention.
