Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has provided a new home and N500,000 business support to the family of late Inspector Hosana Akpan, a police officer who served at the Government House before her death in February 2026.
The governor’s intervention came just two days before Akpan’s burial, with the new house presented to her family at Use Ikpa Ebio in Uyo on Wednesday.
Akpan, who died following an illness, was survived by her husband and four children. The decision to provide the family with a new home followed concerns raised by the Government House Chief Security Officer, CSP Sini Besta, over the condition of the residence where the family lived.
After receiving the burial invitation and learning of the family’s situation, Eno directed officials to inspect the property and subsequently approved the construction of a new home under the ARISE Compassionate Homes initiative.
Construction began in August and was completed in September, ahead of the deceased officer’s burial scheduled for Friday, September 18.
Represented at the commissioning by the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Azare, the governor handed over a two-bedroom bungalow to the family, along with N500,000 in business support for Akpan’s son, Ubong Emmanuel.
The house is equipped with solar-powered electricity, a solar-powered borehole and other essential facilities aimed at providing sustained comfort for the family. Hon. Nsikan-Abasi Umoekpo said the governor had so far delivered more than 10 ARISE Compassionate Homes in Uyo Local Government Area.
Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr Uwemedimo Udoh, described the intervention as a source of encouragement for police personnel and a relief to the bereaved family. He also donated N2 million towards the burial of the late inspector.
CSP Besta commended Eno for responding promptly to her request, particularly his decision to acquire a new parcel of land for the project and fence the property.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Ubong Emmanuel said the intervention went beyond providing accommodation, describing the new home as a restoration of dignity and evidence that his mother’s service had not been forgotten.
Inspector Akpan will be laid to rest on Friday, September 18, while her husband and four children will remain in the home provided by the state government in her memory.
