President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to flag off the reconstruction and dualisation of a 376-kilometre federal highway in Niger State on Tuesday, with the project expected to improve transport links and facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and commercial goods.
The Lambata–Bida–Mokwa–Makera–Kontagora highway serves communities across an agriculturally important corridor, where farmers and traders rely on road transport to move produce and goods to markets.
Vanguard reported that the flag-off ceremony is scheduled for noon in Bida, with Minister of Works David Umahi, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and other government officials expected to attend.
According to the report, Dr Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the North-Central region, announced the project in a statement and linked it to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The highway is expected to improve market access, ease the movement of goods and passengers, and enhance road safety for communities and transport operators along the route.
The statement did not specify the contract sum, the name of the contractor or the expected completion date.
