Five Seriously Injured As 40-Foot Truck Smashes Into Two Buses In Lagos

Five people, including a commercial bus driver, were seriously injured on Wednesday when a 40-foot articulated truck crashed into two passenger buses at Berger Bus Stop, inward Kara Bridge, along the Ojodu axis of Lagos.

The crash triggered a major traffic disruption, with vehicle queues stretching as far back as Otedola Bridge, before emergency responders cleared the wreckage and restored movement along the busy corridor.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which confirmed the incident, said the injured victims comprised three women and two men who were trapped in the wreckage following the collision.

Preliminary findings indicated that the HOWO truck, travelling out of Lagos, rammed into an interstate commercial Mazda bus and a Toyota Hiace bus conveying passengers.

LASTMA personnel stationed around the Ojodu-Berger corridor responded to the scene and joined compassionate motorists in evacuating the injured victims for emergency medical attention.

The victims were taken to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre at the Toll Gate, where they were to receive urgent treatment.

Security personnel from the Isheri Police Station also arrived at the scene to maintain order and support the emergency response.

The collision left the damaged vehicles obstructing the roadway, worsening congestion along the strategic transport corridor. LASTMA officers subsequently removed the vehicles, including the articulated truck, to prevent further accidents and facilitate the movement of other motorists.

Traffic officials remained on the ground to regulate vehicular movement until normal traffic flow was restored.

Following the clearance operation, the vehicles involved in the crash were handed over to the Nigeria Police for investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision and any possible legal consequences.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, sympathised with the injured victims and wished them a speedy recovery.

Bakare-Oki urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles, to exercise greater caution on major roads, comply with traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are mechanically sound before embarking on journeys.

He warned that mechanical defects, reckless driving and loss of control could result in serious crashes, stressing the need for transport operators to make road safety a priority.

The LASTMA chief reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to reducing road accidents, protecting lives and maintaining traffic order across Lagos State
