Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has disclosed plans to leave the state’s top executive office for a seat in the National Assembly, confirming his intention to contest the 2027 senatorial election.
The governor announced his ambition on Wednesday at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, where he also outlined what he expects from party members as the next general election approaches.
Uzodimma urged APC members to regard the electoral prospects of every party candidate as a collective responsibility, rather than concentrating solely on President Bola Tinubu’s bid for another term. According to The Sun, he insisted that candidates who emerged from the party’s primaries should receive the backing of the wider party.
He also cautioned against allowing disagreements from the primaries to persist into the campaign period, arguing that the party’s candidates should not be treated as rivals whose fortunes depend on one another’s failure. He called for reconciliation among members and a coordinated campaign message.
The governor further pressed party leaders and supporters to step up their preparations, describing the remaining 94 days before the election as a period that required sustained work and greater urgency.
