President Bola Tinubu has opted for a mix of continuity and fresh appointments in the leadership of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), retaining three existing executive directors while nominating three new officials for key positions in the agency.
The six nominees, whose appointments are subject to Senate confirmation, are expected to serve five-year terms if approved.
The reappointed officials are Abiodun Adeniji, Executive Director, Finance and Accounts; Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha, Executive Director, Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure; and Mustapha Lamorde, Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community.
Those joining the authority’s executive management for the first time are Mobolaji Tajudeen Musa, nominated as Executive Director, Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure; Ogechukwu Modie, Executive Director, Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning; and Said Abutalib, Executive Director, Corporate Services and Administration.
The nominations were conveyed to the Senate in a letter from the President, seeking expedited consideration of the appointments.
A statement issued on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the nominations were intended to strengthen the authority’s institutional capacity and ensure continuity in its regulatory responsibilities.
Tinubu also approved the appointment of Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the Board/Authority and Legal Adviser, subject to the completion of statutory procedures prescribed under Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act.
The latest appointments follow the appointment of Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Chief Executive of the NMDPRA by the President in April 2026.
The authority is responsible for regulating Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum operations, including the transportation, storage, processing and distribution of petroleum products.
