Campaign Rally Proceeds In Katsina Despite Attack On APC Convoy, Vehicle Burnt

An attack on supporters travelling to attend Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s campaign rally in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State left several people injured and a campaign vehicle burnt, as violence disrupted movement in Yankara town on Saturday.

The incident occurred when suspected hoodlums reportedly attacked vehicles conveying members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and supporters of the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 campaign to Faskari.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers ambushed the supporters along a major road, blocked the route and caused panic among residents and other road users.

A witness claimed that two APC supporters sustained fatal injuries during the attack, although the claim had not been independently verified as of Saturday night. Police authorities had also not issued an official statement on the incident as of 9:10 p.m.

The Caucus Chairman of the Musa Adamu Network (MAN), Alhaji Nura Sule Yandaki, said he was travelling with 11 members of his team to attend the rally when the violence broke out.

According to him, tension developed as members of an Islamic group held a Maulud procession, with suspected hoodlums allegedly exploiting the situation to attack vehicles conveying campaign supporters.

A vehicle belonging to the Musa Adamu Network was reportedly set ablaze during the incident.

The group’s Secretary, Shamsuddeen Sani Lema, condemned the attack and called on security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible.

He described the violence as unacceptable, insisting that political activities should be allowed to take place without intimidation or attacks on participants.

Despite the disruption, Radda went ahead with the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 campaign rally in Faskari, where he highlighted his administration’s interventions in healthcare, education, infrastructure and security.

The governor particularly announced the completion and opening of the Faskari General Hospital, saying the project fulfilled a commitment made during an earlier campaign visit to the area.

“During our previous campaign visit, we promised not to forget the hospital in Faskari. Today, by the grace of Almighty Allah, we have fulfilled that promise by opening the hospital for our people,” he said.

Radda also listed ongoing road construction, school renovation, healthcare investments and security initiatives among the priorities of his administration, expressing commitment to agricultural development, transparency and inclusive governance.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 Campaign Council, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, commended the turnout at the rally and highlighted the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu and the performance of the Katsina State Government.

He urged APC members, youths and women to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Katsina State APC Chairman, Bishir Saulawa, also assured supporters that the party would pursue peaceful and issue-based campaigns, focusing on its achievements rather than insults or divisive political rhetoric.

The reported attack has raised concerns about the safety of political supporters and the need for security agencies to prevent violence during campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
