In an intensified effort to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commissioned a fully equipped Model Primary Healthcare Centre at Ikot Uboh, Edemaya Clan, in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area.
The facility, which is fully powered by solar energy, is designed to provide accessible and quality primary healthcare services to residents of Ikot Uboh and surrounding communities, including Edemaya, Nnung Asang and Ette.
The project was commissioned on Wednesday by a former Deputy Governor of the state, Obong Nsima Ekere, who represented Governor Eno at the ceremony.
Ekere, who hails from Edemaya, commended the governor for what he described as a deliberate and sustained effort to transform the state’s healthcare sector, particularly through the provision of modern medical infrastructure in rural communities.
He said the establishment of the facility would help bring essential healthcare services closer to residents and reduce the challenges associated with travelling long distances in search of medical attention.
The former deputy governor also assured Governor Eno of the support of the people of Ikot Abasi, declaring that the area was prepared to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Eno and other APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The Chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, Hon. Ime Williamson Essien, expressed appreciation to the governor for siting the Model PHC in the community, describing the facility as a significant addition to healthcare infrastructure in the area.
Essien pledged the continued support of the people of the local government for the administration and its development initiatives, while expressing optimism that the facility would improve access to primary healthcare services.
Similarly, the member representing Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Uduak Ududo, said the project would have a direct impact on residents of Edemaya, Nnung Asang and Ette communities.
Ududo commended Governor Eno for the healthcare intervention and ongoing road projects in other parts of the local government area, pledging his continued support for the administration’s ARISE Agenda.
Giving an overview of the facility, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John Emmanuel, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Patrick Eshiet, said the project was part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery.
He explained that the solar-powered facility was designed to ensure that residents, particularly those in rural communities, could access essential healthcare services closer to their homes.
Goodwill messages were also delivered by the Special Adviser in the Bureau of Political Affairs and Social Reorientation, Barr. Kufre Udosen, and the Paramount Ruler of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, represented by the Clan Head of Ikpa Nnung Asang, Edidem C. Udia.
They commended the governor for extending development projects to rural communities and fulfilling promises made to the people.
The commissioning was attended by members of the State Executive Council, APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, local government chairmen, government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youths.
