Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has set a fresh three-month deadline for the completion of the Ewet Luxury Garden Estate in Uyo, warning that failure to meet the new targets could cost the contractor the project.

The Governor issued the ultimatum on Monday during an unscheduled inspection of the estate, where he expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as the unacceptably slow pace of construction on the development.

The 35-building estate, being handled by Western Legacy Investment Limited, has already exceeded its expected delivery timeline, prompting the Governor to demand immediate mobilisation and a more aggressive construction schedule.

Eno directed that 12 buildings must be completed and ready for handover to the state government every month beginning from September, with the Commissioner for Special Duties, Emem Bob, tasked with monitoring compliance with the directive.

He also ordered the contractor to discontinue the construction of porch roofs on the buildings, apparently as part of measures to streamline the work and ensure that the available resources are concentrated on completing the houses.

The Governor said the prolonged delay was particularly concerning because the houses were expected to be delivered to people who had already bought them, stressing that government projects must translate into tangible benefits for the people within agreed timelines.

Eno warned that any building that fails to meet the monthly completion target would attract sanctions, including possible termination of the contract. He made it clear that the administration would no longer tolerate avoidable delays in projects being executed for public benefit.

The Governor further directed contractors across Akwa Ibom to raise their pace of work and respect contractual delivery schedules, insisting that the quality and timely completion of projects remained central to his administration’s development agenda.
