Police in Ogun State have rescued 11 Ghanaian nationals allegedly held against their will in Sagamu after being lured to Nigeria with promises of travel opportunities to Canada and Spain.
The victims, comprising seven men and four women, were freed by operatives of the state police command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit following an intelligence-led operation.
According to Crime Report, citing Daily Post, the police received information on October 19, 2026, about the alleged detention of the foreign nationals at a location in Sagamu, prompting officers to move in and secure their release.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that preliminary investigations suggested a fellow Ghanaian had allegedly brought the victims to Nigeria under the pretext of facilitating their travel to the two European and North American destinations.
However, the arrangement reportedly resulted in the victims being held captive rather than travelling abroad as promised.
The Ogun State Police Command said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and track down those responsible.
